Sonic X Shadow Generations for the Nintendo Switch is a fantastic game that successfully blends nostalgic elements with fresh content. The game revisits beloved stages from Sonic’s history while introducing new levels designed specifically for Shadow the Hedgehog. The visuals are vibrant and polished, and the gameplay is smooth and engaging. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the series, this game offers a thrilling and enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

I was looking forward to this game and I’m happy to say I’m not disappointed at all! Shadow Generations is a fun experience with fun new powers and speedrunning it can be tough but rewarding. Sonic Generations is still great all these years later, so having both is great! The switch version looks great too, although not as good looking as the other options, it is by no means an ugly game. Sonic gens looks at least as good as it did on the 360 and Shadow gens looks great too, and I’ve had no performance issues whatsoever. Plus, the buyer I got it from (unbeknownst to me) had the day one edition that came with a mini physical Gerald Robotnik diary and Sonic Adventure skin code, making that the cherry on top. Get it!
Tl;dr it’s a good game buy it

Sonic X Shadow Generations for Nintendo Switch has quickly become one of my son’s favorite games! He loves the fast-paced action and the chance to play as his favorite characters, Sonic and Shadow. The gameplay is engaging and keeps him entertained for hours, with fun challenges and levels that capture the excitement of the Sonic universe.
The graphics are vibrant, and the controls are intuitive, making it easy for kids to pick up and play. It’s also great that the game has enough depth to keep them interested over time without feeling repetitive.
If you have a Sonic fan at home, this game is a must-have for your Switch collection. Highly recommend for kids who love speed, adventure, and a bit of nostalgia for parents who grew up with Sonic!

EASY TO PLAY AND LOADS OF FUN

I’ve been playing Sonic games since the Game Gear in the early 90s. The Game Gear and especially Genesis games were excellent. But over the years since, Sonic games have been very hit or miss with spotty controls and poor execution at times.
Not this game though. This is my favorite Sonic game since the 1990s. It’s called “Generations” for a reason, with you able to play as both “old Sonic” in levels just like those from the 90s, and “new Sonic” in 3D speedrun levels like some of the more modern iterations (not to mention you can play as Shadow also, which is similar to 3D Sonic).
I found both old and new style Sonic to be exceptional. Old Sonic was perfect, just what I remembered in terms of feel and control. And new Sonic was intensely fun, with excellent levels that really have that extreme high speed feel without suffering from bad controls. Sometimes new Sonic is so fast I feel like I’m playing F-Zero.
If you really like good, fast Sonic fun, but have been disappointed by some of the games as I have been, this is one to get.

It’s perfect.

I per-ordered this game and I was so psyched it came in early. I got Professor Gerald’s journal which was tiny, it was inside the box. (It also came with some redeem codes for Sonic Adventure Legacy skin, You can redeem this in the E-shop store.)
I haven’t beaten the game yet but there are two story modes, Sonic’s and the other, Shadow’s. They are separate games in one game. The voice language can be changed to various languages, including Japanese. (Japanese Sonic is best Sonic.)
New fans will learn about Shadow the hedgehog’s past, which is available to watch right away when you choose Shadow’s story mode. And Shadow’s story also has an art room just like Sonic Generations. An art room will display official art, character profiles, cut scenes to re watch but you have to unlock them as you play the game.
The game play for Shadow the hedgehog’s story is similar to Sonic Generations except Shadow has some new power ups. I haven’t gotten to try all of them in game yet, I’ve barely started.
I don’t expect this new story for Shadow to take very long, this seems to be Sonic Generations with extra Shadow history content so far. I have been a little concerned the direction they are taking Shadow, but so far, I approve. (Characters in the market industry have guidelines to follow.)
For parents wondering if this game is appropriate for their kids, well I’d say yes. Sonic the hedgehog himself game writing tends to be lighter while Shadow tends to be darker. But it’s nothing graphic compared to Halo, Resident Evil or Grand Theft Auto. Just enough to give the story some material because every story has some problem to be solved.
I may or may not update this review but there’s a good chance I will because I am the ultimate fan girl!!!
(The headline are lyrics from Shadow the hedgehog’s official theme song for those who do not know.)
UPDATE 11-3-2024: I have beaten the story part of the game for Shadow. It took me 7 hours to do so. The writers did a good job creating new content for Shadow without completely ruining him. I highly recommend talking to the characters after you beat both acts of the stages. They say different things each time.

Finally a good Sonic Game!
Admittedly, I did not play the Sonic Generations portion, but considering that Sonic Generations was overall well-received, I think it’s safe to say it’s a good buy.
Shadow Generations is polished in the gameplay department. Shadow controls well and feels good to play as. I didn’t run into any glitches during my playthroughs. The graphics are beautiful, especially in the cutscenes. Level design flows really well and offers multiple paths for replayability. Sometimes the game puts you on rails for cinematic portions, but that didn’t bother me, as the cinematics were very cool. Music was awesome. Story was short and sweet but emotionally impactful. Offers enough new content in Shadow Gens to justify the purchase.
Highly recommend.
