I bought this tool to use when changing or rotating wheels/tires on my travel trailer. These lug nuts are torqued to 115 foot pounds (or pound-feet if you aren’t old like me) on 4 wheels, 5 lug nuts per wheel for a total of 20 lug nuts. This tool easily breaks these nuts loose and spins them off the 2 inch long threaded studs in about 2 seconds per each. Power to spare- no contest, no hesitation. Prior to this I had an air tool impact wrench that struggled with this same application. I hesitated to spend the significant amount of dollars to purchase this tool but now that I have it I’m very happy that I did spend that money and have a top of the line solution. No negatives in this design- durable, compact, efficient. Highly recommend!

  2. SafetyThird

It’s bigger and heavier than I thought, but if you need the torque, it delivers. I still use my compact 1/2″ impact for most tasks (automotive) but when you need something removed, this is the guy. I’d recommend going with the 3/4″ version if you do mostly larger diameter fasteners that are more common in 3/4″

Even with the small std battery that came w/ my makita drill has enough juice to completely remove and re-install all 4 of my 5 lug wheels. Amazed at how strong this impact is. I was skeptical as I had previously tried an electric 110v impact and it wouldn’t remove a car tire. Makita has a winner here as I’ve used it on suspension work and still works like a champ. Wish I had bought it 10 years ago.

  6. David wolter

Not the highest torque on the market but the most reliable tool. Burnt through many other brands but my makita is still going strong

  7. Drew S.

I’m a “backyard” mechanic, and don’t have a shop set up where I could look at getting a large air compressor for an impact. This puppy does the trick! Haven’t met a bolt it won’t break. Axle nuts are no match. Gone are the days of removing the center cap, then reattaching the wheel to crack those. Couple chugs and done. Makes quick work of a teardown. Love this thing! It’s a big tool, so not particularly lightweight and it’s Makita, so not cheap. Only reason I have those 2 categories 4 stars. Definitely a 5 star tool.

  8. David Hedrick

I’m using this mostly for assembling pallets made from pressure treated 2×6 and 4×4. Driving 3/8″x4″ bolts through the wood takes about 2 seconds, whereas my old pneumatic with similar torque ratings was more like fifteen.
No more waiting for air pressure to build up after a few bolts, and much faster.

    Pros; High torque
    Fast
    Quick recharge
    Cordless
    Easy forward/reverse switching
    Variable speed (smooth)
    Cons:Heavy
Power setting located in awkward spot

  9. TeamHowards

Great tool, basically use this for lug nuts. I should of bought this years ago.

  10. Concrete Jedi

Makita is tough! This took does NOT disappoint!.
SO HANDY! No need to mess with getting the compressor around. Or a 4-way to change a tire. Super handy when doing trailer maintenance.
Does not shred batteries. Performance is very similar to pneumatic tools

Purchased this because I have the Makita platform and I needed a 1/2 impact wrench for multiple tasks, one being removing stubborn rusted bolts on my vehicle while doing a suspension lift and upgrade. Positives, this is a power packed impact capable of removing some large stubborn bolts.
There is very little vibration while using it. The lights is a great feature and functional. Negatives, it’s heavy and with repeated use you will need to take breaks in between. Because of the weight, I found myself accidentally hitting the drive button while trying to remove a nuts while laying on back, I don’t have this problem with my drills and smaller impact tools, just this one due to the weight and working in awkward positions. Overall this gets the job done and I no longer use my pneumatic impact tools. I would buy again but future redesigns should focus on weight, hence I give it 4 stars.
