I’m a weekend handyman and needed a tool to install a vent but didn’t want to spend 100s of $ on a DeWalt. I got this tool and it worked perfectly, I created a template using 1/2 plywood and created the opening, all using this tool. I had no issues with my 20V DeWalt battery.

This thing worked perfectly the first time I used it for cutting drywall. But after that, each subsequent time I used it, stuff kept breaking off it. First it was the knob that adjusts the height–that knob has broken at least 5 separate times until now it’s just a jagged nub! Parts of the yellow housing chip off and, most recently, the locking button has jammed, locking it in place permanently. So it’s just junk now. And I’m not even half done hanging drywall in my small shed!
Save your money. You get what you pay for–which I know is true, but I was hoping it’d at least last long enough to finish this project! This may seem like an attractive option compared to an actual DeWalt version, but you’re just throwing your money away. Borrow a friend’s or save up for a proper one. You’ll regret getting this.

I had an old, corded cut-out tool (purchased in the ’90s) that had a lot less power than this cordless tool with its brushless motor. I took this apart (bye warranty) to see how it’s built. Most of the tool is motor, which (as usual) also powers a cooling fan. Wires are all heavy gauge, firmly connected. The circuitry is straightforward, with decent components that can be replaced if needed. The tool has plenty of power, so the only real limit is the quality of the bits used.

This is an average middle tier tool, but does what I need. When I got my first order I was not impressed. The motor made a grinding sound when I let off the trigger and it would cut out sporadically when on highest speed. I thought the motor was bad so I returned that first one. The replacement did the same thing. Apparently it wasn’t the tool, but the battery I was using. I swapped out the knock-off battery with a genuine DeWalt and everything works as it should. (This motor does make the same “grinding” noise though.) The power is sufficient for the holes I’m making and time will tell if the motor has issues. I’m in a “wait and see” period before I would recommend.

I am adding a bedroom so I needed a tool to cut sheetrock around power boxes. This was cheap and did the job. It works with my Dewalt batteries. It feels a little flimsy. If I was to do an entire house I would spend more for a real Dewalt saw. Note they sent a drill bit with it; not a rotary saw bit. This means it will cut into a plastic power box or wood. Buy a proper rotary bit if you get this. See pic.
